How to choose a niche perfume that stays with you
A scent isn't chosen by its packaging, but by how it makes you feel. A practical guide to notes, skin testing and making your fragrance last.

Choosing a niche perfume is a little like meeting someone new — it takes time, patience and a willingness to be surprised. Here are a few tips to help you find a scent that truly suits you.
1. Understand the fragrance pyramid
Every perfume unfolds in three stages:
- Top notes — the first impression that fades within minutes
- Heart notes — the character of the scent, revealed after about 15–30 minutes
- Base notes — what stays on your skin for hours
Never judge a perfume by the first sniff from the bottle. Its real personality arrives later.
2. Test on skin, not on paper
A scent reacts with your skin and smells slightly different on everyone. Apply a sample to your wrist, let it dry, and come back to it an hour later. Only then will you know if it's the one.
3. Less is more
Niche perfumes tend to be more concentrated. Two sprays on the pulse points (wrist, neck) are usually plenty. The goal is a discreet trail, not a cloud filling the room.
4. How to make it last
- Apply to moisturised skin — fragrance holds better
- Spray on the body's warm spots, where the scent develops
- Don't rub it in — you'll break the fragrance molecules
5. Start with a discovery set
Not sure yet? A discovery set is the perfect way to try several scents at home and find your own. Once you know, simply add the full size.
